The ShaikhSpear Himachal Diary 2016: Food For Thought

Dinner has been served. Uncle has prepared a really tasty capsicum sabzi and aloo curry. And both Aunty and Uncle inform me that out here at their home, the following items are grown in their own farms:

1. Aloo (potato)

2. Pyaaz (onion)

3. Dhaniya (coriander)

4. Mirch (chillies)

5. Lahsun (garlic)

6. Methi (fenugreek)

Apart from these, the seasonal fruits and vegetables are also there. In this season, the following are available:

1. Karela (bitter gourd)

2. Lauki/Ghia (Gourd)

3. French Beans

4. Kheera (Cucumber)

5. Sem ki phalli

6. Bhutta (corn)

7. Rajma Daal

The only things that they need to buy is salt, sugar, turmeric, cooking oil and tea. Garam Masala is not essential but can be bought if required once in a while.

This is the true essence of “Enjoying the Fruits (and vegetables) of one’s labours”…
