Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, 25th September 2016, 7:00 am:
Last Sunday, we had left for the Jalori Pass trip on a cloudy afternoon. This Sunday, it looks like a clear pleasant morning. And our destination and journey ahead is different this time round.
Right from the moment we got back to Shimla from Jalori Pass, we restarted contacting our friends and acquaintances for finalizing the plans for Pin Parvati Pass trek. The Wayfarer’s ligament injury was still healing and our departure had already been delayed. And the weather in Shimla itself changed over the week, with huge thunderstorms, further casting doubt over weather in the higher ranges of the Himalayas where we were planning to go.
With each passing day, the news was getting worse – the latter half of September was as it is a little late for undertaking the Pin Parvati Pass trek, and bad weather looming over the higher ranges for the past few weeks wasn’t boding too well for our plans. We got information from people in the Pin Valley area that it had already rained and the next round would most definitely be snow. And soon enough, we got the dreaded news – the Pin Parvati Pass trek was off access for the season.
Dejection soon led to working out alternatives. We were still being advised to stay away from all long and high treks and to undertake more of the smaller ones instead. It just wasn’t going down too well with us. And so we kept pushing.
This is where our good friend Nitin Chauhan helped us again. Through his contacts network in interior Himachal, he was able to find someone who was ready to accompany us on the Bhabha Pin Trek. Yippeee…!!!
We are on our way to Rampur right now, from where we will take one of the two afternoon buses to Kafnu. We’ll spend the evening today with our guide sorting out all equipment for the trek. And the trek starts tomorrow morning.
