Dodra, Himachal Pradesh, India, 16 December 2016, 2000 hours:
We went to the only dhaba in Dodra and none of us was prepared for what was in store for us. As it was very cold outside, we were made to sit in the kitchen near the “chulha”. It was very comfortable as it was a closed space with the fire keeping us warm. The food was completely prepared in traditional Himachali manner. Fresh roti was prepared for us on the red hot coal making the rotis as good as they could get. The food here felt like something that was cooked to satisfy both mind and soul.
The owner Mr. Rameshwar Singh Negi then informed us that this was the only dhaba on this side of Chanshal Pass and he prepared the food all by himself. Even the bus drivers who came this way stopped here for their meals and packed dinner for themselves, as there is no other place to get food. I would like to add here that even if there was another place nearby to eat, I think it couldn’t be even close to as good as the food served here.
Mr. Negi is available day and night to cater to all passers by and also has accommodation for travellers, which is something hard to find in these parts. I really appreciate what he is doing here in such harsh and cold conditions. If you do visit these parts, I would not just suggest but rather recommend you to pay a visit to this place for the perfect Himachali treat and hospitality.
