The Wayfarer Diaries: Lighting Up The Tandoor

20-01-2017, 0730 hours, Kaza, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:

In the mornings, hot water is the utmost requirement to kick start the day. The same old technique of lighting a fire is used here with a slightly different touch to it. While the same dried up cow dung and wood as used by our ancestors is used, some saw dust dipped in kerosene is also added to light it faster. The tandoor not only helps to cook, it also radiates heat making the surrounding area comfortably warm and cozy to sit around or have meals. Waiting for the water to get hot enough and proceed.
