Bridges…

…make me nostalgic.

I grew up in a village in Kerala with a lot of inland canals, most of which connected to the backwaters. During high tide, these small canals would become swollen. To cross the canal, there used to be a bridge…

…The bridge would be nothing but a coconut tree kept right across the canal. The width of the canal being not more than five meters, one portion of the coconut tree was good enough to reach the other side…

…It used to be a balancing act for us children to cross the canal, but for adults, it was a normal walk across…

…Now, majority of the canals have disappeared, and so have the bridges…

…During The Mountain Walker Winter trip to Spiti valley, we came across many bridges and here are some of them that made me nostalgic yet again…
