The Wayfarer Diaries: Turning Back

21-01-2017, 1610 hours, Lossar-Kaza Road, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:

We have turned around a few kilometres after Pangmo. The amount of snow accumulated on the road was making it difficult for the car to get a decent grip. On our way to Lossar, the road could be differentiated from the surroundings. But now on our way back, the snow has made the same road to completely blend into its surroundings. Everything looks the same and only the tracks made by the tyres of the vehicles that have passed earlier provide some reference on where to drive in this white maze.

We came across a few women who had come all the way from their homes to fill water inspite of the snowfall. I could well imagine how hard life could be in these sub-zero temperatures, where water freezes completely.
