The Wayfarer Diaries: A Hot Time at Rangrik

22-01-2017, 1125 hours, Rangrik, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:

In spite of snowing just a mere 1-2 inches last night, today is the hottest day that we have encountered so far, with some clouds in the sky. It is also noticeable that it has snowed more towards Lossar than here. The mountains towards Ki have very little snow, whereas just crossing the Spiti river onto this side changes everything with a sudden increase in the snow (about 3-4 inches of snow on the road). The real feel is probably around 5 °C in the sun and it might be due to the many layers of clothes worn by me. Another possible cause could be that the sun is out and the snow is reflecting the heat while the clouds are helping to trap the heat, thus making the temperature a little higher.
