The Wayfarer Diaries: The Man with The Beads

26-01-2017, 1315 hours, Kaza, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:
After the celebrations was over, we were just about to leave when we bumped into Captain Chhering Norbu Bodh. He was dressed in the traditional Spiti attire worn by the men here, with prayer beads in his hands, and had come for the Republic Day celebrations being a school teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School, Kaza. Upon talking to him, he told us that he had served in the Indian military, and was the only Indian who had climbed 6 of the 14 peaks that were more than 8000 m, above sea level, including Mt Everest, Annapurna 1 and Lotse, which in itself was a great achievement.
The humble nature and the simplicity of the person was something really admirable about him. He then shared his experiences of the climbs he had done in the past until his retirement from the army in 2013.
