The Wayfarer Diaries: The World’s Highest Retail Petrol Pump

27-01-2017, 1115 hours, Kaza, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:
After having breakfast we are now heading out to the other side of Kaza, which means we are going across the frozen Shilla nala. A new monastery has been built here which is said to be the branch of the Komic monastery or Tangyud monastery. Facing the Kaza monastery, 8 stupas have also been built to honour the major events in the life of the Buddha.
A little further ahead, we came across the world’s highest petrol pump or the world’s highest retail outlet to be more precise. Though the highway was cleared of snow by the PWD, walking elsewhere is difficult as there is roughly about 2 feet of snow that has accumulated on the ground. The best way is to follow the narrow lane/path formed as people walk on the snow.
