The Wayfarer Diaries: Snow of its Own Kind

31-01-2017, 1100 hours, Kaza, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:

It has snowed approximately 3-4 inches last night. The road in Kaza is also closed as of now due to the total amount of snow accumulated on the road, including the snow which was already there. The only vehicle that can be seen manoeuvring through the snow is the HPPWD camper, while the HPPWD workers can be seen sprinkling soil over the snow so as to speed up its melting and also for the vehicles to get a decent grip over the road.

Another important thing to notice is that the snow that fell last night is the type that is heavy and melts faster. The kind of snow which occurs during the prime winter period is lighter and takes a lot of time to melt. People call this snow ‘Paani vaali baraf’ in the mountain region.
