The Wayfarer Diaries: Back on Tarmac

01-02-2017, 1358 hours, Shialkhar, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India:
We entered Kinnaur district after Sumdo and have now reached Shialkhar. The patch after crossing the bridge at Sumdo was as frightening as it was when we had cleared the stones and boulders on our way to Kaza 15 days ago. Even now, many big boulders and stones had fallen off the mountain side onto the road after the snowfall here, along with land slides at certain places. Nonetheless, the BRO workers could be seen hard at work to keep the road clear irrespective of the dangers all around.
The road conditions improved as we approached Shialkhar. Now our vehicle is also able to pick up speed as we progress towards Nako on a good tarmac road.
