16-09-2017, 0930 hours, Chattru, Lahaul & Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India:
We have stopped at Chattru for breakfast. I have been on the road since last night and given that I did not eat anything at Manali before boarding the Traveller (my last meal was the dinner at Fauji ka Dhaba, Ghaghas), I was starving. As soon as I got down at Chattru, I got inside a small make-shift Dhaba and without any thought or doubts, ordered a steaming hot plate of Rajma Chawal.
The journey from Gramphu up till now has been back-breaking. The road is one of the worst I have been on, wherein a stream of water would cross the road depositing rocks of almost every size possible, which in turn helped the stream dig deeper into the gravel road making it difficult to cross and therefore, ‘back-breaking’. But to my relief the rain stopped just a mere mile from Gramphu and to my luck I even saw a rainbow!
In the meanwhile I got to know that a film-crew was at hand, shooting a movie starring Sunny Deol on the other side of the river. Since these are the last two months of the tourist season in these parts, many taxis are parked here today with tourists going and coming from Kaza.
After a delightful meal I am now able to again relish the beauty around me. Food has that effect on our sense of well being!
