Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, 25th December 2017:
Cold winds blowing across the open expanse of The Ridge. Christ Church lit-up brilliantly. A large gathering of people in and around The Mall. Youngsters talking, mingling, and hanging out. A glorious flow of people from different religious backgrounds and from different walks of life visiting Christ Church to light candles. That’s Christmas in Shimla. Beautiful to behold, serene to experience.
Of course, I wish there had been a snowfall, like we used to have till a few years ago. In fact, White Christmas used to be a given. But tourists to Shimla still got the warm and wintery feel of a Christmas in Shimla what with everybody completely covered with woollens from head to toe! Kids beautifully dressed as Santa’s also caught the eye of passersby. As the day turned to evening and evening to night, the festivities continue under the shimmering stars, with half the moon keeping a watchful eye. And on that cue, I head home – here’s wishing that all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a glorious New Year!
