Abhinav Kaushal, The Ridge, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, 1134 am:
Am standing here on The Ridge amidst a sea of people. Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath has just arrived. Haryana CM, Manohar Lal Khattar is also here.
There is a wave of fever-pitch excitement in the atmosphere as hundreds of people are waiting for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur.
Today the new Chief Minister will take oath and commence his work as the CM of he state. It is a historical moment since it is the first time in the history of the state that the Chief Minister is from Mandi (Jai Ram Thakur is a five-time member of legislative assembly (MLA) from the Seraj constituency in Mandi district). A large crowd of people from all over the state has gathered here at the state capital for the oath taking ceremony. Cheers and slogans can be heard echoing across The Ridge as more and more people join in for the celebrations.
The Mountain Walker had conducted a pre-election poll and from the responses it seemed that people of Himachal were looking at development and good governance, and given the recent history of the state’s election results, change was expected.
Standing here today as an Indian citizen from Himachal Pradesh, I can quite honestly say that the mood here is that now that the people have decisively delivered the change once again, they are now expecting a positive march towards better governance and progress of the state.
Primer Minister, Narendra Modi and BJP President, Amit Shah have now arrived and the event has commenced. The new MLAs have started taking their oaths.
Stay tuned for more.
