The Wayfarer Diaries: The Great Bath At Vashisht

0715 hours, 3 January, 2018, Vashist, Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India:

We arrived in Vashisht just before day break, after an overnight drive on a full moon night. So it was dark but the snow could be seen glowing as the moon made its way down to the horizon in the west. Tired from our journey, the first thing on our mind was to head straight for the hot water bath at the Vashisht Temple here.

After soaking ourselves in the nice warm water at the Great Bath for about an hour (what I like to call it, as in like Mohenjodaro, duh!), surrounded by snow clad mountains around us we were completely refreshed without even feeling the slightest of chilll that one might expect during this time of the year.

By the time we were out of the Great Bath, the sun had also come out revealing some of the most spectacular views one can get to see of the Beas Valley during the winters in Manali. With eyes glued to the majestic mountains all around us, we are now waiting for the shops to open as the next thing on our mind now is breakfast. Cause boy am I hungry!

If only my school had the same views as I can see here in Vashisht, I would never have missed a day! Photo: Abhinav Kaushal
