The Wayfarer Diaries: Chilling at Mastarang

1608 hours, 12-07-2018, Mastarang, Sangla Valley, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India:

As the skies were still cloudy but there had been no snowfall yet, we headed out to Mastarang, to the forest towards Chitkul and get a feel of the snow which remained after the snowfall a week back.

As we were on the move, I was told that it had snowed more than a feet down the valley and some of it was still accumulated along the roadside. Moving up the valley, the snow started increasing gradually until we reached our destination where the snow was cleared off and had been moved to either sides of the road.

It’s cold because of the winds blowing up and down the valley at regular intervals. We have picked a spot for a small fire and are sitting under the shade of the pine trees, evading the cold winds to some extent while enjoying the view of the mountains and the snow around us in this quiet and peaceful forest.
