The Wayfarer Diaries: Shimla to Karcham

0457 hours, 12-01-2018, Karcham, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India:

So here I am at Karcham, from where the road bifurcates towards Sangla. The bus ride from Shimla till here has been quite satisfying, as I was able to sleep for 3-4 hours along the way until we crossed Rampur. As the road turns narrow after that, with lots of curves, and it is also being widened at patches, I was busy holding myself in place for the rest of the way. An uncle sitting next to me was saying ‘Bahut ucchal raha hai bus driver’ (The bus driver is making us jump around a lot). And sure he was, for we were gliding on the road for the most part of the journey.

On getting down at Karcham, I wasn’t surprised that there wasn’t even a single person anywhere in sight. It also felt nice that the weather here isn’t unbearably cold as I was expecting. The sky is full of clouds which I was sure about as the weather in Shimla was also cloudy and the clouds were moving with the wind towards the north. Waiting for my ride to Sangla now.
