The Wayfarer Diaries: To Chitkul We Go

1528 hours, 18-01-2018, Chitkul, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India:

We headed out to Chitkul as we had planned a few days back. After we crossed Rakcham, the valley became more and more beautiful with entire forests covered in snow while the water was frozen in puddles and small streams along the way. The sky was more clearer and bluer here then Sangla, where it was hazy mostly because of the recent fires in the near about areas and fields.

Though I am disappointed as there has been no snowfall, this isn’t as bad as I had imagined it to be, for the views are just amazing all along the way. The snow, the shining leaves of the trees of the pine and the exposed skeletons of other native trees, the colour of the freezing waters of the small streams making their way down the mountains to the river Baspa below, the colour of Baspa itself, the numerous rocks of infinite shapes, sizes and colours, the ever so high mountains with their peaks piercing into the sky, the dried grass, the moss sticking to the barks of the trees – Everything. Feeling the bliss of being in the lap of Mother Nature.
