As the sun approached the horizon, the 7th MTB Himalaya – Shimla Edition (popularly known as MTB Shimla) kicked off on 13th April 2018 from The Ridge, Shimla. The first day’s event was focused on creating awareness among the people and giving an opportunity to the youngsters of all ages to get involved and get a feel of participating in a race. It also gave out the message to go green and help save the environment.
Though the majority of the participants are locals with a few from other parts of the country, 16 foreigners from 7 different countries have also joined in to compete, including a few women as well.
The race began with the Chief Guest Shri Suresh Bhardwaj flagging off the participants from The Ridge. The riders then made their way to Summerhill and returned to the finish line back on The Ridge. The day’s ride gave the participants a feel of riding through the beautiful vistas the city had to offer. While some tested their preparations by trying to finish the race as fast as possible, others just enjoyed the ride taking their time to reach the end.
Over the next two days starting 14th April 2018, the 120 km route will test the endurance and skill of the riders, with the best amongst the best emerging as the winner of the MTB Shimla.
