The Wayfarer Diaries: Snowy Morning at Sarahan – The Abode of Bhimakali

0845 hours, 13-01-2019, Sarahan, District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India:

Woke up at 0730 hours to find that there was no electricity in our hotel at Sarahan. We had reached yesterday before sunset and had the privilege to attend the Aarti at the temple. As it had started snowing last evening on the mountains surrounding Sarahan, I had a hunch that the snow might have reached here also. So I rushed to the window on waking up this morning and as soon as I lifted the curtains, the view was just amazing. Everything was covered with snow.

The snow was still falling though the weather had started to clear out. Excited, I rushed to wake up The Little Mountain Walker and Sanjay “thebengali” Mukherjee, who by this time were already up and getting ready to head out.

The entire village, nearby fields, and the thick pine forest were all covered in snow as we walked towards the temple and thanked the Goddess Bhimakali for blessing us with such beautiful views, especially with today being Lohri.
