One day I will pass on, but the work I do shall live on

One day I will pass on

And all that I hold dear

Would cease to matter

For they were dear only to me.

The world, shall go on

Lives would continue

Family, friends, relationships

Would change.

And there would be new relationships, new pathways, as usual.

One day these roads will cease to exist

And all those destinations they connected

Would find new avenues to communicate

The World, shall go on

People, nations, seasons

Would change.

And there would be meaning, as usual.

One day the language we speak shall change

And all the meanings we ascribe to the sounds we make shall change too

The World, shall go on

Society, civilisation, Nature

Would change

And there would be life, as usual

And all that we do now would have done but little to impact the course of the galaxies we inhabit

So should I cease my efforts?

Halt my thoughts?

Suspend my very existence?

What is the purpose of endeavour,

If not to participate in the change, the shift, the evolution, after all?

But if I desist from my endeavours, any endeavours, what shall I do? What shall I live for? What is the need for my existence?

What is the purpose of a human life? How do we evaluate a life? Assess it? Weigh and value it?

For that matter, what is the purpose of any life?

A human life isn’t any more or less significant than any other life form. And within human lives, none is more or less significant than any other.

The purpose then, is simply to be. To be and to do and to experience and to express or not.

I was born to be. And thus I shall live, and love; and thus, I shall create and consume. Thus, I shall lead and follow. My endeavours – like the endeavours of all other living beings – has meaning in its very being.

Just as life. Just as societies. Just as roads.

One day I will pass on

And all that I hold dear

Would cease to matter

The World, shall go on

Lives would continue

Family, friends, relationships

Would change.

My life would have enriched the world, just as the lives of others before me, and just as the lives of others after me

Just as it should be.

One day I will pass on. But the work I do shall live on in the eternal memory of the global consciousness, nameless, faceless, but significant in its oneness with existence itself.

Nameless, faceless, but significant in its oneness with existence itself.

One day I will pass on, but the work I do shall live on.

One day I will pass on, but the work I do shall live on.

One day I will pass on, but the work I do shall live on.

  1. Exemplary expression of deep thoughts Sanjay Mukherjee… A simple message conveyed so beautifully… It’s the mountain air at work… 😆
