01-08-2019, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India:
After much controversy and protests for opening the restricted road from Boileauganj to Kennedy House, the decision finally came through yesterday from the Government of Himachal Pradesh to open the road for all vehicular traffic.
The road which was the part of Section 17 of the Shimla Road Users and Pedestrians (Public Safety and Convenience) Act, 2007 (Act No. 2 of 2008) can now be used to commute by all vehicles without the need of any permit henceforth.
Though it might help to cater to the traffic situation in the city, it is hard to say what effects it will have for the pedestrians who used to use this vary road for commuting on foot. The road is also the part of the Heritage Walk around the city which is one of the prime activity for tourists both domestic and international.
While some believe that the traffic conditions will worsen on this road also, and make it harder for the pedestrians Will this a bane or a boon for the citizens of the city is something that will only be known in the coming days.
