The Cycling Association of Shimla (district level cycling body) organised its first district level MTB championship on 31 January 2021. The event took place at Potter Hill near Summerhill, Shimla. A total of 50 participants took part in the race competing under two events ITT (Individual Time Trial) and XCO (Cross Country Olympic).
While the participants in the Individual Time Trial got a feel of competing in a mountain bike race with a loop consisting of a mix of single trail, jeep road and tarmac road with a distance of approximately 5 km covered, the participants of the Cross Country Olympic event got to test their metal on the same trail by completing three laps of the same circuit.
Similar events were held at three other districts on the very same day — Bilaspur, Mandi and Kullu — by the corresponding district associations. The district body of Kangra also held the event on 1 February 2021, while the event is scheduled to be held today (3 February 2021) at Solan.
No entry fee was taken from the participants at the event, with the winners getting an opportunity to compete in the State Level Championship which will be held in Shimla on 7 February 2021 by the Cycling Association of Himachal Pradesh (under whose guidelines the associate district bodies conducted these events separately).
