Sikkim (Su + Khim – meaning “New House”) became an Indian State in 1975. Before that, it was under the rule of monarchs, being locally known as ‘Chogyal’. Sikkim is home to the third highest peak in the world – “Kanchenjunga”.

Sikkim comes under one of the two bio-diverse regions of India. It offers travellers snow clad mountains, tropical rain forests, beautiful lakes, tons of waterfalls, variety of exotic fauna, etc. Sikkim is filled with historic and culturally interesting monasteries.

Sikkim is primarily divided into four main regions, namely north, south, east and west. It has international borders with China, Nepal and Bhutan.
