Sangla, Sangla Valley, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India, 7 July 2017, 1300 hours

Well what do you know! We have reached Sangla, are settled into our rather spacious Family Suite at the Prakash Regency, and it was a very invigorating drive for all of us.

For the record, Karchham to Sangla took us an hour. And prior to that, Rampur to Karchham had taken us two-and-a-half hours. Add about 30 minutes for the various stops, and you have a 4-hour journey time from Rampur to Sangla.

Of course, we were fortunate that the regular road was open, and that there were no shooting rocks enroute, nor any stoppage due to landslide or road-work. These are common considerations that one has to factor in when travelling in these parts of the Himalayas, and it kind of makes it unpredictable and exciting. (On the March 2016 Mountain Walker trip, we had a few such stoppages and detours, but that’s a different story for another time).

The hour up from Karchham takes you across very beautiful mountains with quaint villages dotting the mountains here and beyond. I have made a note to myself that on the next trip or whereabouts to Sangla, I will take the road on the other side of the Baspa and go up that mountain to find out what lies there.
