Khanoor Tree, Between Bagh and Majhot, Himachal Pradesh, India, 11 September 2016, 1:15 pm:
After The Refreshing Drink, Mela Ram Aunty went ahead towards Majhot with the cows while I sat under the tree a little longer. I was enjoying the peaceful setting and the sounds of nature when suddenly I heard a loud noise – a Himachali song playing at full volume.
I’ve heard Himachali songs since childhood and they sound very nice at normal volumes. I looked up and saw two boys with cattle, coming down the road from Bagh. I knew the noise was coming from them but couldn’t place the exact source. My dilemma was solved by the elder of the boys, who took out a big Bluetooth Speaker from the bag he was carrying. Voila…
Once again, I was disturbed by the effect of advent of technology. Although it was fun watching the boys in a unique setting, grazing cattle as well as dancing once in a while to the local songs. The volume of the song spoilt the entire experience of listening to a Himachali song in Himachal.
